Immigration Update Australia – Who Can Travel to India?

The Australian Government will only allow travel to India if an applicant is eligible to meet one of the following exceptions:

• Critical workers providing assistance to India’s COVID-19 response
• People traveling in Australia’s national interest
• People seeking urgent medical treatment for a critical illness that cannot be treated in Australia
• People traveling due to the death or funeral of a close family member
• People visiting a close family member who is critically ill

The applicant who meets the requirements of one of the above criteria is required to prove the exceptional circumstance is in place.

It is important to note that temporary visa holders in Australia can depart Australia at any time, however, they will generally not be permitted to return. If they wish to return to Australia, they may apply for an inward exemption before they leave, however, applications will generally only be approved if the applicant meets the requirements of an individual exemption.
