From 1st July 2012 the Transfer Duty or stamp duty concession for a home which is the occupier’s principal place of residence has been reintroduced. This is a welcome reduction in the cost of buying a home. This returns the arrangements to those which applied up until 1st August 2011. There are some conditions, which include a requirement that the property is occupied as the principal place of residence within 12 months of being acquired. It is not necessary that the property is the first home. This change only applies to properties acquired under a contract entered into on or after 1st July 2012. (stamp duty concession)
